Piloting Key Elements of Network Sampling with Memory for Successfully Recruiting Samples of Rare Populations
This pilot explores key referral techniques and recruiting methods for use in the Network Sampling with Memory (NSM) survey approach among Chinese-born individuals in the Raleigh Durham area. The study uses Amazon gift cards to incentivize respondent participation in the survey, motivate respondents to refer other participants and encourage those referrals to also take part in the survey. To establish an effective combination for an incentive baseline, the study adopts strategies which vary conditions under which the respondents and their contacts are given incentives. The results provide crucial information for the design protocol for a larger NICHD-funded NSM study conducted among Chinese-born residents in the Raleigh-Durham Area.
