Dodge Receives Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mental Health

Kenneth Dodge, William McDougall distinguished professor of public policy studies, has received a 2021 Outstanding Achievement Prize in Mental Health from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF).

Dodge is the BBRF Ruane Prizewinner for Outstanding Achievement in Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Research. He is the founding and past director of the Center for Child and Family Policy, the founder of Family Connects International and a leading scholar in the development and prevention of aggressive and violent behaviors.

“I feel honored but especially pleased that the Foundation chose to highlight research in prevention science,” said Professor Dodge upon hearing the good news.

The award winners will be the featured speakers at the BBRF 2021 International Mental Health Virtual Symposium, available on demand beginning Oct. 29. Dodge’s talk is entitled: The Development, Consequences and Prevention of a Defensive Mindset.

The awardees were selected by the foundation’s scientific council of 183 experts across disciplines in brain and behavior research. The council includes one Nobel Prize winner, two former directors of the National Institute of Mental Health and three recipients of the National Medal of Science.

BBRF is the world’s largest private funder of mental health research grants. The foundation has awarded more than $430 million to fund more than 5,100 leading scientists around the world since 1987.
