Abstract
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA) is significant health policy that expanded insurance coverage for millions of Americans through Medicaid eligibility expansion. This study analyzes how Medicaid expansion affected gaps in diabetes management between low-income, Non-Hispanic (NH) Black and NH White adults. Using data from the Diabetes Module of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), I conduct a triple difference study to assess whether Medicaid expansion changes racialized dis/advantage in measures of diabetes management between low-income (less than or equal to $35,000) NH Black and NH White adults (18-64). The findings from this study underscore that Medicaid can be part of a strategy to reduce health disparities.
