DUPRI Scholar Manoj Mohanan has been named vice provost for interdisciplinary programs, effective July 1. Mohanan, a professor of public policy, economics, and global health, will lead Duke’s efforts to strengthen interdisciplinary research, education, and collaboration across the university’s schools and academic units. He succeeds Ed Balleisen, who is leaving Duke to become provost at George Washington University.
Mohanan brings extensive leadership experience, having served as interim dean of the Sanford School of Public Policy since 2024. A nationally recognized scholar in health and development economics, his research focuses on improving health outcomes and public service delivery through evidence-based policy.
In his new role, Mohanan will oversee Duke’s interdisciplinary programs and initiatives, helping expand opportunities for collaboration among faculty, students, and researchers. His appointment reflects Duke’s continued commitment to addressing complex global challenges through cross-disciplinary innovation and scholarship.
